Lazy Days Of Summer

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Summer is here and it can be a very dangerous time for our dogs.  A dog has a normal body temperature of approximately 101 degrees.  Their heating and cooling systems are not at all like ours.  They perspire through their mouths and the pads of their feet.  It is very easy for them to overheat.

To prevent this disaster make sure that there is plenty of fresh, clean water available at all times of the day and night.  On extremely hot, muggy days your dog would be better  in your air conditioned or fan filled house.  Above all DO NOT let your dog go to open fields  or the beach where there is no cover or shade.

The time has  also come to Frontline your dogs.  This product not only prevents fleas but also prevents the deer tick and we all know how dangerous that tick is. It causes pain, sickness and sometimes death.  You apply this product once a month so you can do it  on Heartworm day.

By the way for those of you who have Shetland Sheepdogs or Collies make sure that for Heartwowrm medication you use INTERCEPTOR ONLY.   The other products on the market can be very hazardous if used on these breeds.

Remember I am always here to talk dogs with you and answer your questions.

Have a wonderful, safe summer!
